There is a wide range of fixtures for holding/displaying banners. The most common are retractable stands in which the banner rolls up like projection screen into an aluminum cartridge. These are very useful because they are easy to transport, set up, and take down and they protect the banner. Retractable stands come in a variety of sizes with one or two facings. Most basic stands come in black or chrome finish. Premium stands offer an interchangeable cartridge which is economical for one with a need to use different banner images at various times but does not need to buy an entirely separate stand. The cartridge saves quite a bit over buying a complete new stand.
Swapping a banner out in a retractable stand should be done by a professional. Unless the spring mechanism is broken or worn out and the banner leader is in good shape, is fairly easy and quick to remove and replace a banner thereby allowing an efficient updating of graphics.
One terrific way to get attention for your banner is to use a motorized, scrolling banner stand. This in effect gives you two facings (the banner loop is about twice the length of a typical banner stand banner) and the motion is a very unique and eye-catching aspect. Again, this kind of stand is easy to set up and take down. Because the banner loop is not attached to any hardware, it is easy to have multiple banner loops for each different need or to update the display with a new loop.
The most economical stands are simple frames which hold a banner up with tension. These come in a variety of sizes and can be quite cost-efficient. Typically these are a four-prong frame with an extending base for support. The corners of the banner have grommets and the frame arms insert into these and use tension to pull the banner tight for display.
